George Michael’s ex Fadi Fawaz flees London after paying tribute to ‘unique’ late star
The photographer discovered his partner's body on Christmas morning last year. In an emotional discussion, he reveals he will be surrounded by friends and is ditching London for the Christmas season
FADI Fawaz is heading away from the London home he shared with George Michael to escape Christmas and the anniversary of his other half’s death.
The photographer, who had been with George since 2009, is spending the holiday season with pals a year after discovering the late singer’s body in their home on Christmas morning.
Speaking to , Fadi said: “I will be spending Christmas in the countryside with some friends. I can’t stand all the Christmas trees or lights around London. “It makes me so sad, I just want it over and done with.”
He also vowed to never speak publicly about the moment he found George’s body and said: “I don’t think I want another wound in my body.
“I don’t see the point in telling the worst day of my life to the world. George was one of a kind, I have lost a unique man.”
He added: “There will never be anyone ever again, that is the truth.”
Ahead of the anniversary of the singer’s death, George’s family released a statement discussing “Yog” – George’s family nickname – and his love of the Christmas.
The statement read: “This year has been a series of new and tough challenges for those of us close and loyal to Yog, not least of which was steeling ourselves this month, to hear Last Christmas and December Song streaming out of shops, cars and radios, as it has done for decades, knowing he’s no longer here with us, missing him.
“We are at ‘that age’ and realise that many of you will have had difficult losses too.
“Yog, who loved Christmas, and always hoped it would snow, would want each of you that admired and loved him, (yes – he knows you did!!) to take a moment, raise a glass, enjoy his music and think of him fondly, making sure to enjoy your time with, and appreciate, your family and friends.
“As we all know, Christmas is not always easy, life isn’t perfect and families are complicated.
“Yog shared his music with all of us and many of you connected deeply with his words. Yet many hold their own important words and feelings inside, as so often they are the hardest to say out loud.
“So if you can, in his memory this year, take a moment and a deep breath and say those ‘I Love You’s’ out loud.
“We all think there is time, don’t we? – but, just maybe, it’s later than you think.
“Have a good Christmas everyone and, as our darling Yog would say, take care.”
On Christmas morning, Fadi went to wake up George to celebrate the holidays together to find him lying dead in bed at the age of 53.

The Last Christmas singer had died of natural causes brought on by heart and liver problems.
In a statement at the time, Fadi said: “We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed.
“We don’t know what happened yet. Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I.”
He has since continued to live in the Regents Park home he shared with the star.
