How old is Sir Tom Courtenay and what awards has he won?

Tom Courtenay was born in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, on 25 February 1937 - that makes him 81.

He shot to fame in the 1960s after starring in movies The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962), Billy Liar (1963), and Doctor Zhivago (1965).

In 1983, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the film adaptation of The Dresser. However, he lost out to Robert Duvall.

Courtenay was awarded the 1962 BAFTA Award for  most promising newcomer and the 1963 BAFTA Award for best actor.

When asked about not having had children, he said: "I haven't got over being a son yet!"

Asked if he ever wanted a child, he said: "We had bad luck, Isabel and I.";
