What is The Missing Crown Jewels?

The Missing Crown Jewels followed on from the show's Who Shot Simon Cowell? whodunnit last year.

The plot saw Ant and Dec tasked with guarding the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London after receiving their OBEs back in January.

However, things go awry and the pair are tasked with trying to find them again, and discover who is Maskface, the person behind stealing the jewels.

Who starred in The Missing Crown Jewels?

Emilia Fox returned to head up the investigation, while a host of stars - including Joanna Lumley, Michael Sheen and Alan Shearer - were all involved.

Other celebrities making an appearance included Carol Vorderman, Dame Shirley Bassey, Clare Balding, Alan Titchmarsh, Katherine Jenkins, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Gareth Malone and Martin Lewis.

The Sun first revealed footballer Alan Shearer would be taking part.

A show insider said: “Who Shot Simon Cowell? gripped the nation for weeks last year.

“Millions of Saturday Night Takeaway viewers saw the music mogul gunned down on primetime telly. But this year’s whodunnit sketch is set to be even bigger and better.

“Show bosses have pulled out all the stops to get some huge A-list guests involved in the fun.

“Ant and Dec made a special move for Alan as he’s a god to them.

“He’s such a good sport and was delighted to feature.”

How was Joanna Lumley involved?

Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley played Head of the Honoured - a secret and elite organisation - and was the one to issue the pair with the task of protecting the Crown Jewels.

Joanna managed to keep a straight face throughout the skit, which is admirable considering the hijinx the cheeky Geordies got up to.
