David and Victoria Beckham are building a HUGE treehouse for their four kids in the grounds of new £6m Cotswolds house

The couple bought the Grade II-listed country pile last December and are carrying out extensive renovation work

THE Beckhams want to build an extravagant treehouse for their kids to play in at their £6.15million Cotswolds home.

David and Victoria’s latest planning application follows previous requests for an orchard, croquet lawn and natural swimming pond at the picturesque country pile.

Through their architect Michael Ergatoudis, who is a specialist in barn renovations, they’ve asked the council for permission to construct a thatched treehouse, which will be 4.5m x 4.5m in length and width, and 4.275m high. It will cover a ground space of 15.6 squared metres.

The Design and Access statement given to the council states: 'The application is for a modest Tree House on land that has planning permission for residential use. It is to be constructed in reclaimed timber with a timber shingle roof and is intended for use by the owners’ children as a play area and as such its use will be incidental to enjoyment of the main dwelling house."

Since purchasing three disused listed barns, the Beckhams have spent a fortune on renovations to turn it into one family home.

The six-bed, six-bath property has been designed by Ergatoudis, but the gardens have been left to Chelsea Flower Show winning gardener and landscape designer Marcus Barnett.

The designer's landscape statement reads: "The treehouse will be no more than 5m high, and built of reclaimed timber with thatched roof, as used elsewhere on site. The structure will be constructed independently of the tree, and as such provides no impact to its growth or health.

"The building is of simple but high-quality design, with a gabled form, 45 degree pitched roof, low eaves, and an outdoor deck area. It is proposed that the roof be finished in timber shingles. The walls are proposed to be clad in reclaimed timber, with the same material used for the posts, deck, timber railings and steps."

Pre-existing permissions granted on the property include the construction of two mezzanine galleries, which could be used to house their collection of Banksy and Damien Hirst creations.

The bill for the construction is estimated at £1.8 million but is set to be double that with a state-of-the art security system also being fitted.
