IAIN Lee burst into tears tonight after his fear of heights got the better of him in the Dingo Dollar Challenge.
The radio host was unable to do the aerial part of the challenge, meaning his partner Stanley Johnson couldn't continue either.
The pair arrived in a clearing to find a television, an armchair and an old fashioned aerial. Iain read the scroll: "It’s an old TV and signal’s dropping, to earn your money go channel hopping. Tune the telly and watch each show, each number mentioned you must know."
Stanley explained that it meant one of them going up onto the rooftop - a high bridge swaying 100 feet over a deep Jungle ravine - moving an aerial into different positions in order to try and get channels on the TV set that Stanley would be watching.
Each separate channel would generate a number and that number would be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided with the next number until they get all the channel numbers and could work out the total number needed to release the Dingo Dollars. For instance, the weather channel number times the drama channel number was then divided by the lotto channel number and so on.
Iain, who has previously expressed his fear of heights had to adopt different positions on the rooftop to tune into that channel. He put on the safety equipment and prepared himself for the challenge. He looked out across the narrow bridge stretching across the forest canopy and said: “I’m not totally convinced I can do this... let’s see how we go.”
Stanley said: “Iain has got a terrible fear of heights and he came here to try and conquer that fear. No-one knows how real people’s fear is and who are we to tell a chap his fear is not real enough to take part in this escapade.”
Iain took two steps out “Heights genuinely terrify me so this isn’t fun.” I am shaking. He took another few steps out and couldn’t continue.
“Guys, I’m really sorry I can’t do it, it’s off. Sorry Stanley.” He walked away from the challenge area again upset.
“Don’t worry Iain you gave it a go, you absolutely did,” said Stanley.
Iain in tears said: “I got the fear and I just couldn’t do it.”
Comforting him Stanley said: “You tried it, there are some things you cannot conquer, why should you, you weren’t born to be a TV repairman on top of a high stack. Remember these treats are nice to have but we’re going to have dinner.”
Back at camp Amir Khan wasn't as sympathetic, claiming Iain should have done the challenge regardless of his fears.
