Oxford Circus evacuation – Love Island star Nathan Massey and his heavily pregnant girlfriend Cara De La Hoyde forced to run to safety

LOVE Island couple Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey have been caught up in the police incident on London's Oxford Street – and were forced to run to safety.

Cara, 26, who is heavily pregnant with her first baby, was about to enter Oxford Circus tube station before police swarmed the area.

A source close to the couple said: “Nathan and Cara were doing some Christmas shopping together on Oxford Street as the gunshots were heard.

“Cara is heavily pregnant and due any day now – and was forced to run to safety as fleeing shoppers cowered in fear.

“Police quickly swarmed the area and luckily the pair managed to escape the panicked scene in a taxi.

“It is the last thing Cara needs with her baby due any day now.”

Despite the mass panic and reports of shots fired, after an hour, police confirmed they had found no evidence of gunshots, no serious injuries and no suspects.

They said they had carried out an "urgent" search of the area but had been unable to find any evidence of shots being fired.

A Met Police spokesman said: "To date police have not located any trace of any suspects, evidence of shots fired or causalities. Officers continue to work with colleagues from British Transport Police in the area of Oxford Circus."

A spokesman earlier said: "Police were called at 16:38 to a number of reports of shots fired on #OxfordStreet & underground at Oxford Circus tube station.

"Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related. Armed and unarmed officers are on scene and dealing along with colleagues from BTP".

One person has been injured when leaving Oxford Circus station, with the drama lasting for about an hour.

Oxford Circus and Bond Street stations are now both reopened and all trains are stopping normally, with cops saying they had been stood down, and that shoppers were able to leave.

It was earlier reported by other publications that a lorry had smashed into pedestrians on the busy shopping street.

This information had been based on a tweet posted more than a week ago and unrelated to today's incident.

Shoppers were pictured packed inside department stores on the UK's busiest shopping street, with many revealing how they were left shaking in fear.

Former Sun man Gavin Glicksman was at the scene, saying: "There were lots of police in the area already because of the Royal Variety Performance at The Palladium nearby, so they were all over it quickly.

"There were lots of people sheltering inside shops on Carnaby street and the nearby area.

"Shops were letting customers in - from what I can tell now it seems to all be over.

"I turned back into Carnaby Street and everyone was running in the other direction.

"It was obvious that people were trying to get out as quickly as possible.

"People were saying they heard a gun."

One woman named Maaiysa, a journalist for TRT, tweeted that she heard "gunshots" as well as screams and sirens from her office near Oxford Circus, and posted video of people running away from the station.

She wrote: "Never seen such panic. People flooded into our offices, looking for shelter, shaking."

It comes on one of the busiest nights for the station as Black Friday shoppers make their way home.

Sun Online deputy editor (production) Ben Bailey was at Bond Street tube station as panic broke out.

He said: "Everyone was screaming and running back down the escalators.

"There was an almighty crush to get back on the carriage. People were crying and shouting.

"A woman screaming 'my baby' was being crushed in the panic.

"People were shouting 'gun' and we were all running.

"A man fell and his face was covered in blood. I helped a woman who smacked her head on the ground. We thought there was an attack on the Tube. Everyone was terrified."
