I’m A Celebrity’s Declan Donnelly reveals he ‘hated miserable’ Ant McPartlin when they first met

DECLAN Donnelly and Ant McPartlin might be the nation's best-loved presenting pairing, but they haven't always been best buddies.

In an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show from 2006, Dec revealed in their early days on Byker Grove the pair didn't really see eye to eye.

Dec told the host: "We didn't particularly like each other at first, I thought he was miserable."

And Ant added that they like to outdo each other, saying: "We've rowed a few times - we're quite competitive."

While there is a rivalry, Ant admitted that they're much better together. He said: "If we hadn't met I don't think we would have got as far."

When I'm A Celebrity returned on Sunday night, Dec put co-host Ant on the spot when he asked where he'd been all summer.

The presenter entered rehab to deal with his addiction to prescription medication earlier this year, and while some wondered how the duo would address the situation during the opening show, they needn't have worried.

During one link, the pair discussed a model of the camp they had on the table.

Ant pretended to be unimpressed by the replica, saying: "That's it is it? We've been off air a year, a whole year and that's what you've done? That's all you've done?

"Eh? A whole year to make that! It's rubbish man!"

As he nudged it, Dec stepped in and said, "Don't be rough with it, I spent all summer making that, all summer that took me.

"No help from this one".

As he spoke, Ant sheepishly picked up his mug and drank from it, giving a little laugh.

Dec continued: "Where were you all summer? What were you doing?"

Ant pretended to choke on his drink and shrugged as Dec continued to badger him about his whereabouts.

"Just stuff" Ant replied, "I was just dead busy, dead busy".

He then distracted himself with the kangaroo on his mug before adding in a silly voice: "Go to VT".
