Trophy will leave you stunned, provoked and furious but it’s a vital watch with too many incredible moments to pick just one
A documentary on big-game hunting is never going to be a walk in the park
THIS is a really tough watch. A documentary on big-game hunting is never going to be a walk in the park.
But this will leave you stunned, shocked, provoked, furious and challenged to change your perspective, regardless of which side of the fence you are on.
A thorough, meticulous film, Trophy does extremely well in covering as many points of view and as many reasons both for and against hunting.
The pro-hunters claim their substantial costs (£265k to shoot a rhino) are all ploughed straight into the conservation of the very animal they want stuffed and displayed.
The anti-hunting brigade scoff and present the harsh facts that in 117 years, the elephant population has decreased from ten million to a matter of thousands.
There are too many incredible moments to choose just one. But take your pick from a conservationist standing in the aftermath of a rhino-poaching bloodbath.
Or how about 20,000 would-be hunters gleefully picking their targets from a catalogue in Las Vegas, then seeing one of these pumped up prats shooting an alligator at point-blank range?
The hunts and interrogation of some suspected elephant poachers turns into one of the most gripping scenes you’ll see this year.
Your blood will curdle and boil.
Trophy is a horrific and vital watch.
