Amir Khan arrives in Australia for I’m A Celebrity stint in order to ‘stay out of trouble’ after reconciling with wife Faryal Makhdoom
TROUBLED boxing champ Amir Khan has touched down in Australia and claims he's signed up for I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here to "stay out of trouble".
The boxer, 30, who is back with his pregnant wife Faryal Makhdoom after a brief split in the summer, also revealed he will miss his three-year-old daughter Lamaisah while he is in the jungle.
He said: "I'm always training throughout the year and keep in shape wherever I am.
"I'll be training while I'm here. I'll probably go for nice jogs while I'm here and try and keep out of trouble.
"2018's going to be a great year for me. I want to fight three times next year.
"I want to get a fight in February, and then again just before Ramadan in April."
Bolton-born Amir had previously wobbled over I'm A Celeb, citing his Muslim faith as an issue with some of the show's eating trials.
Speaking about missing his family he said: "I always miss my daughter when I'm away. I love my daughter. But it'll be a nice little break."
Asked why he's taking part in the show now he claimed it was because he's never been to Australia before.
"It's my first time here, so I thought I'd see what's going on. I'm excited to be in Australia, because it's a fun place."
Amir insisted he wasn't scared of any creepy crawlies waiting for him in the jungle. He said: "I'm not scared of anything like that."
Asked if he wanted to be King of the Jungle, he responded: "King of the ring, suits me better."
Khan, 30, had previously wobbled over his participation in I’m A Celeb, citing his Muslim faith as an issue with some of the ITV show’s eating trials.
His reconciliation with Faryal will dash show chiefs’ hopes of a jungle romance.
But they are still said to be thrilled to land the Bolton-born former light-welterweight world champion.
A source said: “It’s been touch and go for a while, but now that he’s in Australia they’re confident he’ll end up in the camp — even though it isn’t yet signed and sealed.
“ITV have been trying to get him to do the show for years so this is a real coup for them. They think he’ll make great TV.
“They had hoped that as a newly-single man there could be a jungle romance with some of the sexy singletons there. But that’s now looking unlikely.
“Meanwhile Amir’s hoping he can use the show as a springboard to help rebuild some of the damaged public perception of him after his marriage split.”
Khan accused Faryal, 26, of cheating with fellow boxer Anthony Joshua this summer — before she hit back at him.
She later announced she was pregnant with their second child.
The star captioned his new snap with Faryal: “With my 4 month pregnant wife after sorting out all the issues.
"Closing the year with a happy ending.”
