Who is Loyle Carner and what is his real name?
Benjamin Gerard Coyle-Larner is better known by his stage name, Loyle Carner - a spoonerism of his surname.
The 23 year old was born in Lambeth and brought up in South Croydon, and has been diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia.
Aged 13, he had a small role in the film 10,000BC, playing a Young Hunter.
After studying at Brit School, he dropped out of education when his stepfather died of sudden death in epilepsy, choosing to focus on his music instead.
When did he release his first album and what’s it called?
His first EP, A Little Late, was released in September 2014, and got a good response.
He went on to play Glastonbury in 2015, and supported Nas at the O2 Academy in Bristol in 2016.
His debut album, Yesterday’s Gone, was released on January 20 2017, and it was announced in July that it had been nominated for the 2017 Mercury Prize.
He has been nominated for British Breakthrough Artist and British Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards 2018.
What happened when Loyle kicked a sexist fan out of his concert?
Loyle Carner interrupted his gig at the University of East Anglia in October 2017 to scold a male audience member who is alleged to have shouted “you have big t*ts” at the female singer of his support act Elisa And Srigala.
In a video, he is filmed saying: “I tell you what though, there’s one thing I do have to say before I move on.
“I was sat back there with DJ Rebel Clef and we heard a rumour that there were a couple of people in the crowd shouting sexist things at the support act.
“How do we feel about that?
“I don’t know who it was.”
