Who is Max Vento?

Max Vento, 10, from West Yorkshire, plays autistic boy Joe Hughes in BBC show The A Word.

Joe is the child at the heart of the show and the part is Max’s first TV role.

Joe’s biography on his agent’s website reads: “I am a typical little boy who loves drama and acting. I have appeared in Annie and I have also appeared in a commercial for Better Bathrooms.”

As well as The A Word, in 2017 he starred in film Cotton Wool.

Does Max Vento have autism?

Max’s character Joe in The A Word does have autism.

In real life actor Max does not.

However, he does portray the condition excellently on screen.
