Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy hints the show could go on for SIX series – as he talks about A-list new series starring Adrien Brody AND Tom Hardy
Speaking ahead of the show's fourth series return, Cillian teased that Blinders will go on 'as long as the story remains strong'
CILLIAN Murphy has hinted that Peaky Blinders could last for at least six series.
The Irish star, who plays the lead of Tommy Shelby in the period gangster TV hit, dropped a huge hint that the show would go on "as long as the story remains strong".
The 41-year-old was speaking to when he gave hope to Blinders fans.
He said: "It’s a privilege to get to play a character like Tommy Shelby and work with Steven Knight, who’s such a great writer."
Cillian teasingly added: "It’s just our job to do his scripts justice and I think we’d all continue as long as the story remains strong."
The show's much-anticipated return to the BBC this month sees Cillian reunited with Inception co-star Tom Hardy.
plays Jewish gangland boss Alfie Solomons in the drama, featuring in series two and three.
Both Tom and Cillian will be joined by another Hollywood heavyweight in series four, with Adrien Brody taking on the role of another gangland figure, Luca Changretta.
Speaking about working with the A-List stars, Cillian said: “We’re so lucky to be able to attract actors of that calibre and the fact that [Adrien] wants to be in it shows how popular the show is in America.”
The show, which charts the unstable fortunes of Birmingham-based gang the Peaky Blinders, has been a smash-hit for the BBC - with the show exploding worldwide.
Speaking in January, he told the : "Never say never, but we feel that [series] five may be the last.
"I have got the end in my mind; whether that happens at the end of five is the question. I want it to end when the first air raid siren sounds in Birmingham."
Series three ended with the Tommy and his family pulling off a daring raid, out-manoeuvring Romanov/Petrovna family and stealing their jewels.
However, it also saw Tommy willingly letting the police take himself and his family away in handcuffs.
So far, series four has been kept under wraps, but it's believed the Peaky Blinders will be back in Small Heath - trying to survive and bolster their fortunes following their run-in with the law.
Cillian let slip to : "“Tommy is trying to convince himself it’s okay. He’s trying to live with it and what happened to the rest of them."
Peaky Blinders will return to BBC One on November 15 at 9pm.
