Speaking during a behind-the-scenes clip on today's Lorraine, Adam says he hopes his on-screen alter ego Adam Barton didn't do away with the evil nurse.

He said: "No one is giving anything away which is quite irritating but fun at the same time. I'm leaving you see so everyone is saying that I'm the murderer which I'm not too happy about because  I want to come back to be honest."

There are seven major suspects in the hunt for Emma's killer and they have even filmed different endings so spoilers aren't leaked to viewers.

Laurel became a prime suspect in the murder investigation during last night's episode.

The former vicar's wife had previously denied being in the village on the day Emma died after being pushed over the viaduct.

But stepdaughter Gabby Thomas discovered that wasn't the case, having found a train ticket for the day in her bag.

Laurel managed to convince the teen that despite having the ticket, she hadn't actually returned from her trip away from the village, and had stayed with her sister Caroline.

But she then quickly made a call to her sibling to get her to provide a fake alibi if the police get in touch, signalling she was lying to her nearest and dearest after all.

The plot thickened further when she called Bob Hope up and asked him to come round to her house in half an hours time, and when he did, even more was revealed.

"Sorry to call you, I just needed to talk to somebody," she said desperately as she let him in, "This business with Gabby, my mind's been going all over the place."

Trying to reassure her, Bob said: "Look, I know that none of this is easy, but it's going to be OK, trust me."

Bob was then relieved to hear from Laurel that Caroline was going to back up her version of events if the police came knocking.

But Laurel continued: "They're going to keep asking about that day, and I'm going to have to keep lying... what if I can't do it?

"The guilt's already eating me up."

But Bob replied: "Look at me, you've got to stick with what you told the police, because the alternative...it doesn't bear thinking about."
