Why is Kevin Spacey not in House of Cards series 6 and what have Netflix said about the sexual assault allegations against him?
HOUSE of Cards is coming to an end - but not just yet, thanks to Robin Wright, who has stepped up and assumed the presidency of the US after five years at her husband's side.
After filming was suspended, many thought the show would be canned completely, but the show is returning - without Kevin Spacey.
When did Netflix remove Kevin Spacey from House of Cards?
In December 2017, Netflix announced it would produce the final season of the hit show in 2018 without shamed actor Kevin Spacey.
It came after numerous sexual allegations were made against Spacey.
Netflix previously announced it "will not be involved with any further production of House Of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey" after initial allegations were made about him by actor Anthony Rapp.
Now, the drama has released its last ever series with Robin Wright in the leading role.
What did Netflix say about the Kevin Spacey allegations?
Netflix suspended the production of House of Cards on November 1, 2017, following the harassment allegations made against Kevin Spacey.
Media Rights Capital and Netflix said the suspension was "until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew".
The announcement came just hours after the actor, who played President Frank Underwood in the award-winning political drama, was stripped of an upcoming Emmy award “in light of recent events”.
On November 26, 2017, it was revealed that the suspension had been extended.
Producers Media Rights Capital (MRC), who shut down production on the show’s sixth and final season in early November 2017, announced in a letter to production staff that the hiatus would be extended for a further two weeks, “with the hope of resuming production soon”.
“As we continue these discussions [with Netflix], we have determined together that the crew will be paid for an additional two week hiatus – beginning on November 27th and continuing through December 8th,” MRC wrote to the House of Cards cast and crew in a letter seen by Deadline and others.
“These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen,” it continued.
“The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crews in this business.”
