When is V Festival 2018 and what’s the new name? Date, tickets and line-up rumours
The popular summer festival is set to rebrand this year. What will it be called and who is set to play?
V FESTIVAL has been entertaining music fans in its current format for a whopping 22 years, but this year it will be given a rebrand and even a new name.
With Richard Branson's bombshell statement at the end of last year's festival, this is what you need to know about its new title, how to get tickets and who will be performing.
Will there be a V Festival 2018?
The short answer is nope. V Festival 2017 was indeed the last ever V Festival, after Richard Branson pulled out of the all-important Virgin Media sponsorship.
It is a huge move considering Virgin launched the festival and have been putting it on for 22 years.
However, the Twitter and Instagram pages for V Festival confirmed that a music festival will run in its place next year.
What that festival will be like, and who it will be sponsored by, still remains unclear.
The tweet, posted on October 30 2017, read: "Thanks for being a great sponsor @Virgin. 😊 The name of the new festival that continues on the same weekend in 2018 will be announced soon 🎉."
What has Richard Branson said about the festival?
In a statement on the Virgin website posted on October 30, Richard announced: "Now, after 22 very enjoyable and successful years, 2017 was Virgin’s last V Festival.
"Being part of V Festival has been an honour and there are some amazing moments that will stay with me forever – including introducing Paul Weller and welcoming V2 Records’ first signing The Stereophonics to a massive audience.
"Working on V Festival has been a brilliant journey filled with great people, fun times and exceptional music.
"I have so many memories to cherish – from the mind-blowing performances to spending quality time at the festival with both Holly and Sam, who it’s no surprise are both music lovers after spending so much time dancing at V.
"We’re really excited about the future ahead and can’t wait to share our plans with music lovers across the globe."
What will the new V Festival be called and when can I get tickets?
At present there is no word as to what the new V Festival will be called, although we can expect to hear "soon".
It's likely that whoever sponsors the festival next will give the festival its brand name as a title.
Tickets are likely to be released further down the line when a new sponsor has come on board and artists have been signed up.
Usually tickets go on sale in February of each year.
Where is V Festival usually held?
The festival is usually held in Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire.
Artists on the bill move between the two locations over the two-day festival, as with Reading and Leeds.
Performances are also broadcast on TV - on Channel 4 and 4 Music from 1997 to 2013, then on MTV in 2014 and 2015, on Channel 5 in 2016 and on MTV again in 2017.
