Coronation Street’s Connor McIntyre says Phelan WILL be brought to justice as the double murder is the ‘pebble that starts the avalanche’

CORRIE star Connor McIntyre has confirmed his evil alter-ego Pat Phelan will get his just desserts - following the shock double killing in tonight's episodes.

The actor - whose character shot Andy Carver dead after forcing him to kill a work associate Vinny - said Phelan's long-overdue downfall is imminent, as his murder of Andy is "the pebble that starts the avalanche", but warned that the road to justice will be "lively".

Fans were singing McIntyre's praises after the shock, horror movie-style murder scenes aired - finally bringing to a bloody end the months Andy spent as Phelan's captive.

Talking about why he thinks his character finally decided to kill, McIntyre said: "Phelan has been promising the world to Andy but he is two, three steps ahead.

"The Vinny problem has evaporated and it was in that moment that Phelan realised how easy it is to solve a problem.

"As soon as he got the gun off Andy, he registered, ‘two birds, one stone.’

"He saw that opportunity and he is the architect of his own downfall. And now Nicola’s gone, that was a catalyst as well, he’s really at a dangerous moment," he added.

Asked if angry fans who want to see Phelan locked up will finally be sated, McIntyre seemed keen to reassure viewers, saying: "It must be so".

However, he went on: "But while we run up to that, whenever that is, Pat Phelan is now a very dangerous person.

"Now he’s crossed the rubicon [of murder] whereas before he would go to great lengths, for example the cellar, complicating things."

And dropping a major hint that Phelan will kill again, he added: "The journey towards his comeuppance will be very lively I’m sure, because now he has a direct root to solving problems."

McIntyre admitted he's been stunned by Phelan's "narcissist, psychopathic thinking" and the "logic" he uses to overcome the reality of his crimes.

He also praised showrunner Kate Oates for giving the character freedom to become so diabolical, saying: "I knew the quality of writers that we have here, even in that short stint at the beginning.

"He was a straight up and down dodgy character but he’s grown and the writers and Kate Oates have given him that latitude.... What a lovely thing."

He did send a grave warning to fans that property scammer Phelan "never forgets", and hinted that the character would be successful in framing Anna Windass.

"Remember the last scene in The Rovers?" he teased. "'Best day ever' - now what does that mean…?!

"That’s where you see the danger."

It seems that poor McIntyre will have to put up with far more awkward fan encounters in the street between now and the day his soap creation finally ends his reign of terror.
