This Morning viewers slam guest who married HERSELF before having ‘affair’ with man who had multiple simultaneous lovers
Viewers were left furious about a segment about people marrying themselves
THIS Morning viewers were less than impressed with two guests who appeared on the show to discuss how they married THEMSELVES.
Stand in hosts Ben Shephard and Amanda Holden interviewed Sophie Tanner to find out why she chose to get married to herself, and her ex Ruari Barratt who also wed himself.
Sophie had been on the show before when she first tied the knot to herself but she was back on the show to reveal why she had an affair with Ruari and how their break led to him turning his back on polyamory.
The pair's relationship only lasted for five months and did not end very well, however, the break up made Ruari reassess his decision to be a polyamorist - someone who has multiple simultaneous relationships.
Speaking to the hosts he admitted he often found it a bit tiring to have so many lovers.
Amanda quipped: "It's a bit greedy, isn't it? How many on the side?"
The star was noticeably stunned when he replied: "It differed... about seven?"
However, he revealed he eventually decided he need to stop and marry himself in Las Vegas as he said: "I was incapable of loving myself when I was polyamorous, but now I know how to love others."
After his wedding, Ruari got a tattoo of a heart with “me” written in the middle to honour his commitment.
Viewers flocked to Twitter during the segment as one wrote: "#ThisMorning marrying yourself 🙄 then had affair wtf has this world come to..."
Another joked: "I'm sure you can love yourself without ....marrying yourself. What a farce hahaha #ThisMorning."
One person posted: “#thismorning Marry yourself...that's it I'm switching over to the Matalan channel.”
Another fumed: "Pair of attention seeking g*ts on #ThisMorning who married themselves.... FFS! #ThisCountry."
One viewer stated: "#ThisMorning these people are just full-of-themselves and narcissistic who just wanted fame by doing something ridiculous!"
Another tweeted: "Guy who married himself on #ThisMorning..... What a b**end."
ME, MYSELF AND I DO We meet the sologamists — the women who marry THEMSELVES in lavish ceremonies
One joked: "So if she wants to get married again do you need to get divorced from yourself? Who gets the house? #ThisMorning."
Sophie, 37, is a sologamist from Brighton who married herself in May 2015.
She was given away by her dad Malcolm, 68, a decorator, and her friend James McGeown, 35, a school travel manager, officiated.
Sologamy is the act of marrying yourself and the idea is to give yourself a commitment that values self-love and self-compassion and supporters of the practice claim it leads to a happier life.
There doesn't necessarily have to be a ceremony - you can have what is known as a 'self-uniting' marriage - a marriage without the presence of an official.
The commitment can be anything from a quiet private moment in a room by yourself with a candle and a mirror to a full-blown wedding bonanza complete with dress, cake, reception and vows.
