Bake Off in fix storm as Sophie Faldo reveals she got first Paul Hollywood handshake but it was edited to look Steven did
THE Great British Bake Off has found itself at the centre of a fix storm after Sophie Faldo revealed she got the first Paul Hollywood handshake of the series.
The baker said the show was edited to make it look like Steven Carter-Bailey had impressed him first.
Steven has been a favourite from the outset and fans were amazed by the incredible cakes he had made for his family and friends before the competition.
However, Sophie was keen to point out that she actually got a handshake before him.
Speaking to the , she said: "I got the first Hollywood handshake on the show.
"On TV it was edited so it looked like Steven got the first one but it was actually me.”
It comes as the four remaining bakers shared their kitchen secrets ahead of the quarter final.
Steven, Stacey, Kate and Sophie will go head to head tonight as the competition nears its end.
Steven admitted he had to work hard at keeping his involvement in the show a secret in his hometown.
He said: "I have four supermarkets near me and I kept going to different ones so the people on the till wouldn’t clock that I was buying kilo after kilo of flour and eggs by the ten-dozen…
"The people in my local shop only realised it was me yesterday!”
Meanwhile Liverpudlian Kate didn't even have a kitchen to practise in when she got the call that she had made it onto the show.
She explained: "My kitchen is relatively small but modern.
"I didn’t actually have a kitchen to practise in for Bake Off because I’d just ripped it out when I got the phone call!
"I was planning on putting in a new one myself – demolition Kate – so I had to use my parents’ kitchen.”
As for Stacey, she was greatly influenced by former judge Mary Berry when it came to learning how to bake.
She revealed: "I taught myself to bake at university in Warwick.
"My friends bought me the Mary Berry cookbook for cakes – which is still on my shelf – and they all signed it: “Stacey D, make a cake for me”. I put on about four stone at university!”
- The Great British Bake Off continues tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
