Danny Mac says he’s glad he didn’t win Strictly Come Dancing for the sake of his career
DANNY Mac has said he's really glad he didn't win Strictly Come Dancing "for the sake of his career".
The Hollyoaks actor finished in second place behind sports presenter Ore Oduba on the BBC reality show last year but says he's happy not to have lifted the Glitterball Trophy.
He told the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine: “I always say I didn't lose, Ore won. And Oti and I won on the Strictly tour, so I got a version of the trophy.
"My mum has it on her dining table, so every time I go home I see it in all its glory.
"I actually think it was probably best for my career that I didn’t win.
“I mean, Ore will never be able to get away from the Strictly winner thing, even if it’s been the making of him.”
The 29-year-old recently married Carley Stenson, 35, who he met on Hollyoaks but says there was no Samba for their first dance.
“We had a very traditional first dance. No big set-piece. We kind of shuffled round, like most couples do," he said.
When asked about this year's show, Danny said It's “strong field. It’s wide open”.
His former partner Oti is dancing with Paralympian Jonnie Peacock and he thinks it's a great match.
"I think Oti thought she'd get a comedy act this year so it's been brilliant for her," he said.
"It's been interesting to see how they've worked together because they're both used to winning. They're both very competitive."
