THIS Morning viewers were shocked as Doctor Foster's Simon looked unrecognisable without his beard.

Bertie Carvel, who plays the cheating husband in the BBC drama, appeared on the show to discuss tonight's finale but fans were left distracted by his new look.

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby commented on how different he looked and Bertie joked that it was a mixture of "acting and the beard".

Taking to Twitter, viewers expressed their shock at Bertie's strikingly different look and how different he was to his character.

One wrote: "Omg Bertie Carvel looks SO different with no beard!!! #ThisMorning".

Another added: "#ThisMorning are you sure you have the right guy on he looks absolutely nothing like him #DoctorFoster".

Someone else said: "Oh wow, Simon Foster looks strange out of character lol 😐 #ThisMorning @ITV".

Holly and Phil quizzed him about tonight's finale but he didn't give much away.

When asked about evil Simon's relationship with ex-wife Gemma, he said: "He hates her, he loves her, he's incredibly angry not just with Gemma but with himself."

However, he wouldn't comment on whether the drama will return for a third series.

Bertie teased: "Your guess is as good at mine, this may be my final ever appearance on television."

While many viewers were distracted by his appearance, others slated the interview as "painfully awkward" as he couldn't answer any questions about the finale.

One wrote: "Anyone else think that was an awkward interview on @thismorning @Schofe @hollywills #ThisMorning".
