Who is Dana York and when did she marry Tom Petty?

Dana York attended a concert in Texas in 1991 and met Tom Petty himself.

They didn't get together romantically then as she was still with her first husband, but they re-connected in 1996 after her marriage was over.

Tom has credited Dana with "saving" him, helping him to kick his drug habit and re-build his relationship with his children.

After they got together, he went into therapy and Dana stood by him and supported him in his bid to get clean.

The couple married on June 3, 2001 first in Las Vegas and then at a small ceremony in front of close family and friends a week later.

Who was Tom Petty's first wife and does he have children?

Petty married his first wife Jane Benyo in 1974 when he was 24.

He told that he struggled to keep the marriage together,  with Jane battling drug addiction and mental illness and him falling into a deep depression and subsequent drug addiction of his own.

The couple had two daughters together, Adria in 1974 who is a film director and AnnaKim Violette, an musician and artist.

The marriage was volatile, with Petty revealing in a biography that Benyo was verbally abusive to him and their two daughters.

They eventually divorced in 1996.

Who was Tom Petty and when did he have a cardiac arrest?

Tom Petty was an American musician, singer and songwriter born on October 20 1950.

He grew up in Florida but dropped out of school at the age of 17 to follow his music dream.

He formed the successful bands Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and the Traveling Wilburys and sold over 80 million records worldwide.

He died after after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Malibu home on October 2, 2017.

A statement from Tom's manager Tony Dimitriades confirmed the tragic news and read: “We are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty.

“He died peacefully at 8.40pm surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”
