Nick Grimshaw vows to beat Chris Moyles’ Radio 1 Breakfast Show record — despite losing 300,000 listeners in the past year
GETTING up with the milkman hasn’t dented NICK GRIMSHAW’s passion for his Radio 1 Breakfast Show.
The DJ is set on becoming the longest-serving host of UK radio’s biggest gig.
The record is held by CHRIS MOYLES, who Grimmy replaced in 2012. To top that, he needs three more years at the helm.
In an exclusive interview, Grimmy said: “I’m not usually competitive but I know if I do three more years, I will have done it for longer than Chris. And I thought, ‘That sounds very good’.
“The last five years have gone by so quickly, it feels crazy. I was weirdly specific about wanting to do the Breakfast Show, as I thought it was the most fun and free.
“I wasn’t wrong.”
His bid to outlast Chris comes despite the show losing 300,000 listeners in the past year to 5.1million. But the former X Factor judge isn’t fussed.
Grimmy said: “It is quite an archaic way to measure something. I pay attention to them a bit, I guess. Even the concept of a kid having a radio is mad!
“We make ‘content’ rather than have a traditional radio show.”
Grimmy has interviewed countless A-list hunks like ORLANDO BLOOM and JAKE GYLLENHAAL but he has never convinced one to prolong their stay in his company. He said: “I do wonder why these internationally straight men won’t go out with me! I’ve dated people but I haven’t had a long-term boyfriend for ages.
“I don’t sit at home thinking, ‘I really want a boyfriend’ but I do want to find someone. It just has to be the right person.”
One star he has an unlikely bond with is former England footballer RIO FERDINAND.
Grimmy, who is helping Radio 1 celebrate its 50th anniversary today, said: “I’m from a family of big Man United fans and we used to see games every week. Rio was like MADONNA to me!
“We hung out then he came to one of my DJ sets and MC’d with me. For one summer in 2015, we were best friends.”
His best-known celeb pal will always be HARRY STYLES. But the former ONE DIRECTION star is yet to forgive Nick for suggesting — live on air — that Harry’s track Two Ghosts was about his ex TAYLOR SWIFT.
Grimmy said: “I won’t ask him about Taylor again — not after the reaction he gave me last time.”

Lott dream of nude Pix(ies)
The singer has revealed she is planning to bare all once again – but only for the sake of fashion.
In an exclusive interview, she said: “I think in the fashion world, nude shoots can look amazing, like CLAUDIA SCHIFFER.
“They’re celebrating their bodies and it looks arty and trendy so I would do something like that – it would need to look classy.”
Pixie, who stripped off here for her own revealing shoot, yesterday released her latest track, called Won’t Forget You.
While she is focused on getting her new music out, Pixie says she won’t be singing at her upcoming wedding to model OLIVER CHESHIRE.
She’s eyeing up a music legend instead.
She said: “I did a duet with LIONEL RICHIE on his country album – so we’ve performed together a few times and that’s how we’ve become friends.
“I think I’d be too lucky if he accepted and came and sang at the wedding – he’s amazing.”
He’ll ensure the party goes All Night Long.
What a scaredy-Att
USUALLY what terrifies celebrities on the red carpet is the prospect of saying something they shouldn’t.
But I changed all that on Thursday when I teamed up with Thorpe Park to scare guests at the launch of their annual Fright Nights, which run until October 31. Among those to fall victim were Love Island’s OLIVIA ATTWOOD, and CHRIS HUGHES, ANNE-MARIE, and ANAIS GALLAGHER.
Chilling stuff. Now book your park tickets – if you dare – at.

JAMELIA has revealed she married in secret – and is expecting her third child, captioning a pic of her on social media with her clutching her bump: “When your Husband gives you the best wedding present EVER #GRATEFUL.” Congrats.
Just lovely
JUSTIN BIEBER has dated so many models, he must be pretty handy on the catwalk by now.
This week he took his latest, PAOLA PAULIN, to a service at his Hillsong church in LA, I assume for some romantic hymns.
A source said: “He’s relied on the church more and more, it’s an important part of his life.
“Taking Paola shows they have a connection. He wouldn’t take just anyone.”

EVA LONGORIA is set to prove her comedy chops again. She is in talks to star in comedy film Dog Days, after joining JACK WHITEHALL in BBC1’s Decline And Fall earlier this year. The flick is about humans brought together by their dogs.
Cara's brave comments
CARA DELEVINGNE has given her most honest chat yet about her battle with depression.
She said: “I didn’t understand what was happening apart from the fact that I didn’t want to be alive any more.”
Cara, above, has fought the illness for ten years and admitted that she “hated” looking like a boy growing up – which didn’t help her state of mind.
She told Net-A-Porter’s THE EDIT: “I didn’t have boobs or start my periods ’til very late.
“That whole thing of being called frigid, and being flat-chested . . . I felt alienated and alone.” It’s brave of her to open up.
BIZ METER: CHARTS
SAM SMITH has held onto the No1 spot for a third week with Too Good At Goodbyes.
It finished just 693 copies ahead of closest contender Rockstar, by POST MALONE.
THE KILLERS have destroyed their rivals in the battle for top spot in the album charts.
The US rockers’ amazing new album Wonderful Wonderful has gone straight to No1 and secured them a place in the record books.
They are now the only non-UK act to have an unblemished record with all five of their studio albums topping the charts.
The ten-track collection is also on track to become their first No1 in the US.
The Killers are one of my favourite bands and chatted to me about the album on my Bizarre Life podcast back in July, which you can still listen to on Apple Podcasts, iTunes or your favourite podcast provider.
ED SHEERAN spends a mammoth 30th week inside the top three with his third album Divide.
It has rightfully stayed a firm favourite since it was released way back in March.
RISING rapper CARDI B is at No37 with her tune Bodak Yellow. It comes in the same week she racked up a real achievement, becoming the first female rapper for 19 years to score a US No1.
