Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle will get back together and get properly married, say soap bosses
Soap favourites whose gay relationship finally fell apart this summer will be 'brought back together' in the winter months as show chief promises 'big, big Christmas Day episode'
EMMERDALE’S Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle - dubbed "Robron" by viewers - will reunite, the soap’s boss has confirmed.
Producer Iain MacLeod has confirmed the fan favourite couple will reunite and tie the knot properly next summer, after a special Christmas Day episode centres around the couple as Robert strives to become a decent human being again.
Robert’s redemption will come as he tries to fix the problems he has caused the White family ahead of their exit from the village.
Iain told us: “It emerges from what’s Robert is doing at the moment on screen.
“It will be big and dramatic and hopefully quite surprising and out of the blue.
“And it’s part of an ultimate redemption story for Robert where he kinda feels he’s hit rock bottom in terms of all of the dastardly things he’s done over the years.
“He determines to start to try and live a bit differently too.
“Aaron’s always involved in Robert’s life and there’s a big, big episode that will go out on Christmas Day.
“It’s kind of a Robron single-strander. Which is probably the weirdest episode we’ve ever done and given that we’ve done some pretty weird episodes before that’s saying something.
“It’s really kind of out there and kind of the episode I’ve been most nervous about since I started just because of how crackers it is really.
“I think it’s really entertaining and dramatic. It’s got a surprise cameo on it. It’s stylistically a bit weird and romantic.
“It’s going to be really great. I always think of Aaron and Robert as being on either end of a massive piece of elastic.
“At the moment the elastic is stretched pretty tight.
“The events of Christmas and New Year will boing them back together, to coin an expression," he concluded.

Fans will be delighted at the news about Robert and Aaron - played by Ryan Hawley and Danny Miller - who have faced adversity in their struggle to be together after it was revealed Aaron was abused by his father in childhood.
Then Aaron himself was locked up in prison for assault - leaving Robert alone, and tempted into a one-night-stand with ex-girlfriend Rebecca, who then got pregnant.
The baby revelation, and the reality of Robert's betrayal, hit Aaron hard when he got out of prison.
His mental health problems resurfaced, before his addiction to drugs and self-harm drove them apart permanently - with Aaron saying he was leaving the village to focus on his mental health.
And then last week, fans were left despairing that no hope was left for the couple when Aaron walked in on Robert having a date with a hot doctor, and told him: "I hope my husband makes you happy."
But as Iain has confirmed, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Dales, even for these two.
