Oasis fans shocked to learn Liam Gallagher’s real name – and they aren’t sure it’s very ‘rock ‘n’ roll’
OASIS fans who've always thought of frontman Liam Gallagher as just that - a Liam - have been left shocked by the revelation that his real name is something else.
The Mancunian rocker, 45 - currently promoting the release of his solo album As You Were - has had his real full name outed online, and some fans are now choosing to call him by that name instead.
It turns out that the Wonderwall singer, whose band Oasis split in 2009, is actually called William John Paul Gallagher.
His Irish parents Thomas and Peggy apparently opted to raise him as a Liam, seeing as that's an Irish shortening of the moniker.
The singer's middle names John and Paul are an obvious Beatles tribute, which is no surprise considering Liam and brother Noel's obvious adoration for the Liverpudlian music legends.
Fans who did not know Liam's full name are now making a meal of the bizarre revelation on Twitter.
Some are teasing the occasionally hilarious tweeter by messaging "William", asking how he is.
Others are simply trying to cope with the revelation that Liam should really sign off all his tweets: "As you were WG x".
Opinionated icon Liam might not be so pleased to know his fans aren't sure that William is a "rock 'n' roll name".
But the star clearly has other things on his mind - namely his flaming beef with Noel, which has rubbed off on his own son Gene.
A new interview with has seen dad-of-four Liam slam "our kid" Noel, 50, once again - for playing "boring" renditions of Oasis hits on stage.
Asked what he thought of Noel's stripped-down versions of the tracks, he said: "It's like Ryan Adams, innit?
"I'm not too keen on that. I like to keep it the way it is on the record. I don't see the point.
NAME SHAME These are the shock meanings behind some very common names… and parents might not be too pleased
"When I've heard Noel's versions of Oasis songs, it nullifies them a bit and makes them a bit acoustic-y and really kind of boring. So then when he plays his new songs, his new songs lift off.
"When I do Oasis songs, I do them exactly how it f***ing was! Who the f*** wants to hear Supersonic acoustic? Should be f***ing ashamed of yourself, mate, know what I mean?"
Liam also defended his decision to release a solo album after tweeting in 2015 that he'd never release one because he's "not a c***".
The sheepish musician said: "I know, I know, I know. I was lying when I [tweeted that]... I prefer it being a band mate, to be brutally honest.
"But there is no band at the moment, so a solo record it is. There's too many solo records and not enough bands, as far as I'm concerned. At least I'm doing a solo record 'cause I have to."
Then, making a further dig at Noel, he added: "I didn't split up one of the f***ing greatest bands in the f***ing world to do one because me f***ing ego needed stroking."
William Gallagher kicks off his As You Were tour in Belfast on October 30, before ending it in Manchester on December 16.
