DOCTOR Who will refuse to regenerate again, a leaked synopsis has revealed.
The Time Lord will be seen in the Christmas special played by actor Peter Capaldi for one last time, but he will refuse to regenerate following the loss of companion Bill Potts, according to the description of the episode from BBC America.
It reads: "Two Doctors stranded in a forbidding snowscape, refusing to face regeneration.
"And a British army captain seemingly destined to die in the First World War, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor's story.
"This is the magical last chapter in the Twelfth Doctor's epic adventure.
"He must face his past to decide his future.
"And the Doctor will realise the resilience of humanity, discovering hope in his darkest frozen moment.
"It's the end of an era. But the Doctor's journey is only just beginning."
Viewers watched at the end of the last season how the Doctor, bereft with grief over the loss of another of his friends, died but refused to use the regeneration energy to restart his life.
Instead he flew the TARDIS to a vast frozen desolate place and stumbled out, determined to die.
But as he fought the regeneration, he heard another voice call out in the same way - the first Doctor.

Capaldi's 12th Doctor shouted: "I don't want to change again, never again, I can't keep on being somebody else. I'm staying. I will not change. I am the Doctor."
But he was answered by a figure who emerged through the snow saying: "No, no, no, I am the Doctor, the original."
Played by David Bradley, the character was dressed as the late William Hartnell's Doctor, the first ever incarnation of the Time Lord.
The two will fight alongside one another as both face their ends, but fans know that Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker will replace Capaldi at the end of the Christmas special.
Speaking of her casting Jodie said: "It feels completely overwhelming, as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you're told you can and can't be.
"It feels incredible. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that's exciting about change."
But the casting was not met with universal acclaim with a minority of fans complaining that the Doctor should always be played by a man.
Previous Doctor Peter Davison was even forced to quit social media after his comments about Jodie's casting were made public.
