Emmy Awards 2017: Black Mirror, Riz Ahmed and John Oliver light up dismal night for Brits as A-list elite turn out for star-studded bash
CHARLIE Brooker's gong for Black Mirror, Riz Ahmed's Oustanding Lead Actor win and John Oliver's honour at the Emmy Awards 2017 was a shining light for British talent, as US TV shows Big Little Lies and Saturday Night Live dominated.
Fan favourite, Game Of Thrones, which won a record breaking 12 awards at the 2015 Emmys, missed out on the nominations this year because their season aired too late to be considered by the judging panel.
The 69th annual awards show kicked off in style with some of the biggest names in showbiz gracing the red carpet at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
The British stars were out in force, with Claire Foy leading the charge alongside by her on screen husband Matt Smith.
While she missed out on the award for Outstanding Lead Actress, her The Crown co-star John Lithgow picked up the gong for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series on the night.
Benedict Cumberbatch, Ewan McGregor and Anthony Hopkins also missed on awards.
And while James Corden is still one of the UK's most successful exports to the US, he still couldn't break the curse for The Late Show, who're still yet to win an Emmy.
James didn't let the disappointment dampen his night however, and showered attention on his pregnant wife Julia.
The pair, who are expecting their third child, posed together on the red carpet and Julia proudly showed off her growing baby bump.
James and Julia were joined on the night by fellow British star Thandie Newton.
Her picture perfect, pink gown wowed the crowds who turned out to see the stars.
Also joining the British pack on the night was teen star Millie Bobby Brown.
The 13-year-old actress, , wore a Calvin Klein gown for the occasion.
Not to be outdone by their co-star,
US actress Felicity Huffman was joined on the red carpet alongside her husband William H. Macy.
Felicity's daring designer dress was cut almost down to her navel and had a fishtail train.
The actress' glam squad went all out, teasing her hair into classic Hollywood waves.
The actress, who's presenting an award at the ceremony, opted for a gown by Ralph and Russo.
Jessica styled her long hair into a quiff and wore the rest in curls which hung over her left shoulder.
Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman sizzled in a scarlet Dior gown on the evening.
She was joined on the red carpet by her husband Keith Urban and the pair put on a loved up display for the cameras.
Later on in the evening, Nicole shared a peck on the lips with her on-screen husband Alexander Skarsgard as he picked up the gong for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
Nicole's Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon joined her later on in the evening.
She opted for a coat-style emerald dress for the star-studded bash.
Elisabeth Moss looked delighted after bagging the Outstanding Lead Actress gong.
The American actress grinned and waved the awards, two of eight picked up by The Handmaid's Tale on the night, for the cameras.
Sofia Vergara upped the style stakes in a eye-popping white gown by designer Mark Zunino.
The Modern Family star accessorised her look with a pair of large, chandelier earrings.
Heidi Klum showed off her cleavage in a plunging scarlet gown which was cut to her navel.
Earlier in the day, the model revealed the secret behind her red carpet look in a candid Instagram video which she shared with her fans.
Michelle Pfeiffer opted for a chic little black dress for the star-studded bash.
The actress, who's latest film Mother has wowed critics, won over fashionistas on the night with her classic outfit choice.
Sadly the same couldn't be said for Mandy Moore, who divided the fashion pack with a daring gown by Carolina Herrera.
The newly engaged star, who showed off her large diamond ring on the red carpet, appeared more than happy with her choice however and beamed at the photographers.
Soon all eyes were on the carpet by Orange Is The New Black star Laverne Cox.
She wowed in a metallic gown made by designer Naeem Khan.
Ariel Winter suffered a style fail on the red carpet and topped the worst dressed lists.
Speaking about her flesh flashing gown, she told , Ariel said: “I was just looking for something different.
“I loved it and thought it was a beautiful dress.
“I usually do cleavage and not legs so I decided to switch it up!”

The actor won Outstanding Supporting Actor at last year's awards for his role as Christopher Darden in The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Sterling was joined by his wife, actress Ryan Michelle Bathe.
Next in the spotlight was Hills star Kristin Cavallari, who grinned for the cameras as she arrived at the bash.
She was followed up the carpet by British TV presenter Louise Roe and dancer Julianne Hough, who wowed fans with an ornate feathered dress from Marchesa's Spring 2018 collection.
