THE X Factor offers people from all walks of life a shot at musical stardom – and for Aidan Martin the opportunity to change his life takes on even greater significance.
Ahead of his appearance on the show, Aidan spoke of why he "regrets" the mistakes of his past.
Who is Aidan Martin?
Aidan Martin in a 27-year-old barman from London who is vying for glory on this year's series of The X Factor.
However, he has a chequered past – back in 2010, he was nicked back for trying to use a credit card stolen from England rugby ace Lawrence Dallaglio for a £43 restaurant bill, according to .
The paper reports that two years later, when he was 21, he admitted fraud by false representation and possession of an article for use in fraud and he was sentenced to 80 hours of community work.
Aidan, who has been writing songs since he was 17, told the Mirror: "Although it’s no excuse, I was much younger when this happened. It’s something I entirely regret."
A source said: “He’s moved on and hopes X Factor is an opportunity to make something of his life.”
Five years on, Aidan will be hoping to seize his fresh start with both hands – and opted to perform an original song, "Punchline", to wow the judges in his audition.
He has now revealed he was also addicted to cocaine.
When is The X Factor 2017 on ITV and who are the judges?
After launching on September 2, X Factor 2017 will continue every Saturday and Sunday on ITV.
The show begins, as always, with auditions as the nationwide hunt to find this year's winning act begins.
Despite heavy speculation of a judging shake up, the panel will be remaining exactly the same as last year.
This means Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne will hold the hopefuls' fates in their hands.
Alesha Dixon is also appearing in the auditions, having stepped in as a guest judge when Sharon and Nicole were unable to attend.
It's the first time in seven years that X Factor bosses have kept the same judging panel as the year before.
A source said: “The chemistry was perfect last year, so it’s only natural to want to bring the same line-up together again."
Dermot O'Leary will be returning to hosting duties after making his big comeback to the show last year.
