Coronation Street legend Liz Dawn, 74, rushed to hospital ‘in a bad way’ with lung condition emphysema
Actress, who played Vera Duckworth on ITV's long-running soap, was taken ill suddenly on Thursday
CORRIE legend Liz Dawn is fighting for life after being rushed to hospital.
The 77-year-old, who played Vera Duckworth, was taken ill suddenly on Thursday.
The former heavy smoker has lung condition emphysema and was admitted to a Manchester hospital suffering from fluid on the lungs and chest pains.
A source close to her family told the Sun on Sunday: “She’s been in and out of hospital quite a few times in the last few years and normally the family are quite upbeat, but this time they seem more concerned.
“She’s not in a good way and her loved ones are obviously very worried.”
Liz was on the ITV soap for 34 years before quitting the cobbles through ill-health in 2008.
She has recently been restricted to a wheelchair and has been housebound for weeks.
In June she had surgery linked to a heart condition and had to miss the wedding in Italy of grandson Thomas Borso, 29, and Alice Coughlin — the 27-year-old niece of Corrie’s Debbie Rush.
At the time she said: “I’ve got no energy but once the operation is done I will be looking forward to being as back to my normal self and getting my energy back.”
In 2013 she had a pacemaker fitted after a heart attack while on holiday in Spain.
She admitted at the time: “My health is very bad these days.”
Liz first appeared on the Street in 1974 but it was her double act with screen husband Jack, played by Bill Tarmey, that delighted fans for decades. Bill died in 2012.
