Ruth Langsford fears she’s ‘too fat, too old and too busy’ for Strictly Come Dancing as she battles her nerves

RUTH Langsford has been plagued by fears she is "too fat, too old and too busy" to do Strictly Come Dancing.

The 57-year-old This Morning and Loose Women presenter made no secret of her desire to be part of the BBC One dancing show over the years.

But now her time has come, she is full of self-doubt about whether she should be doing the programme.

Speaking to The Sun Online and other media ahead of the launch show tonight, Ruth said: "The nerves have started very badly for me.

"I had a real jitter. I got up very early yesterday and did that thing of, ‘err, what day is it? Where am I supposed to be?’

"Then every negative thought I could possibly think about doing Strictly suddenly was there.

"I was thinking I haven’t trained enough, I’m too fat, I’m too old, I’m too busy, I can’t do it.

"I had to get up because I got myself in such a state."

Ruth's worries have not been helped by many of the bookies giving her odds of just 66/1 to lift the glitterball trophy.

But the star insists it isn't the bookmakers predictions that have given her the fear, as they haven't got anything to base them on.

She explained: "They don't know who everybody is yet and they haven't seen me dance, so I don't really know what they are basing that on.

"Actually it doesn't even worry me as the whole thing is a competition and an entertainment show.

"I am determined to enjoy it."

Ruth was able to get her jitters under control with the help of her fellow celebs, including Gemma Atkinson, Brian Conley and Mollie King.

She said: "We were all on the What's App group and I said: 'I'm not sure about everybody else, but I'm feeling very jittery'.

"Then suddenly everybody else was going, 'yes, I am a bit too!'.

Ruth's husband Eamonn Holmes has also been a calming and supportive influence on her.

She added: "Eamonn was fantastic as soon as I mentioned it.

"He said 'Do it! Do it! It doesn't matter what else you're doing, just grab it'.

"If I hadn't, I'd have always wondered what I'd have been like on Strictly."

Strictly Come Dancing begins tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
