CELEBRITY Island viewers were horrified when Iwan Thoams and Ryan Thomas killed a baby caiman in tonight's episode.
The stars were desperate for food having not eaten properly in nine days and wasted no time hunting the crocodile when it was discovered in their watering hole.
After a tense hour-long stand off which saw the croc nearly snap Ryan's hand, the two men eventually wrestled the creature out of the water before Iwan plunged a knife into it.
Viewers found the incident difficult to watch, with comments including: "#CelebrityIsland is one of those shows we will look back on in 30 years and wonder how it was allowed to be made #beargrylls #vegan.
"#CelebrityIsland let's kill a planted innocent crocodile ! #pathetic.
"that was potentially the cruelest kill i've seen on The Island - poor thing #CelebrityIsland.
"Watching #CelebrityIsland was too much for me. That poor crocodile!
"i dont know how much i agree with the torture of a crocodile for an hour for a bunch of idiots #CelebrityIsland.
"No, I had to turn over from #CelebrityIsland, I know they need to eat but I just couldn't see them kill that crocodile."
It wasn't just viewers who struggled to process the kill.
Swimmer Sharron Davies was reduced to tears as she watched her co-stars finish their hunt.
Emotionally, she told the camera: "It doesn't feel very nice, but we're hungry and it's him or us."
While comedian Shazia Mirza said: "They just murdered an animal in cold blood. It's really awful to watch."
Meanwhile, Iwan was unrepentant, saying: "I feel quite proud I've killed a caiman and perhaps I should be feeling bad but to be honest I don't. I just saw it as an animal."
And he was raring to go when the caiman was first discovered, telling the camp: "I have to do this, this is what I came to the island for. I need a knife."
