GREAT British Bake Off star Noel Fielding isn’t a grate cook - as he can’t even make cheese on toast properly.
Pals of the zany host, 44 - who took over presenting duties alongside Sandi Toksvig when the baking show moved to Channel 4 - have revealed that when it comes to his culinary skills in the kitchen they Camembert.
One told The Sun on Sunday: “Pals of Noel’s - including Babyshambles rocker Carl Barat - have been winding him up about his new gig after he made some cheese on toast.
“They told him that it was the most ridiculous effort they had seen because it was just the bare bones.
There was no butter, no seasoning and no sauce. There was nothing to redeem it.
“He puts cooking cheese on toast to shame. Even something that simple will burn under the grill, because of his short attention span he needs to have 999 on speed dial.”
Experts have suggested that the timing is key to making cheese on toast and suggested cooking it for three to four minutes to get a golden, crispy top as well as adding Oxford sauce and gerkins.
Earlier this week Channel 4 hailed the return of GBBO a ratings hit, after the first episode on Tuesday night drew a peak audience of 6.78 million viewers who tuned in to see which of the 12 contestants would be crowned star baker and who would be sent home.
Viewers were also impressed by the performances of its new line-up of Noel and Sandi, alongside new judge Prue Leith, 77, and the return of Paul Hollywood, 51.

But Noel’s pals were left confused after seeing him making his baking debut.
The pal continued: “Obviously we were really happy for him but we were quite surprised that he got the Bake Off gig. It’s a little bit like seeing your party-loving friend suddenly go to the bank and have to try and act professional and normal.
“During his wild party days seven years ago there wasn’t really any food at his house. He would call it Noel’s House Party and all be food in boxes as he lived near a Tesco Express. There wasn’t anything fresh.”
Hopefully Noel’s stint on the show will only make him get feta...
