Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas joins Neighbours after Hollywood dream fails

RYAN Thomas is set for stardom down under after reportedly landing a role on Australian soap, Neighbours.

After a 16-year stint as Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street, Ryan looks set to join the show that launched the international careers of Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Guy Pearce and Margot Robbie.

A source told : “Ryan’s news may come as a bit of a surprise but people are confident he’ll make a big splash on Neighbours.

“He’ll bring his Corrie fans with him and earn a new legion of fans along the way.”

However, the 33-year-old actor is waiting on lengthy paperwork before he can make the big move.

The source continued: “He is just waiting on his visa. Then he’ll be moving to Australia to film the show.”

Ryan quit Coronation Street in 2016 to pursue a Hollywood career but it seems he failed to land any big roles in La La Land.

At the time, Ryan revealed: “Going to Hollywood is a dream so I’m going to see what happens. We can always dream.”

He also admitted: “I wanted a complete change after leaving Coronation Street. My agent’s in London, my meetings are there and many of my friends, too. I’m also going to do some drama classes there.

“I’ve only ever had one job. I need to start from the bottom and start learning my craft. I want to be tested and taken out of my comfort zone. I need to do auditions and be rejected for roles – rejection is so much part and parcel of this business, but I’ve never experienced it.”

Ryan continued:“I’ve never been in an audition situation apart from when I was up for the role of Ryan in Corrie, and I got that part just 15 minutes into that audition.

“I feel that I need to find out what it’s like to be told I haven’t got a role I’ve gone for.”

Ryan is also rumoured to be following in the footsteps of his twin brother by starring in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here when the hit reality show returns this year.

A source close to the actor told The Sun online: “Ryan would be superb in the jungle and there has never been a family member following a family member into the outback ever in all the series.”
