Who is in the Strike series cast?

In September last year, the BBC announced that Tom Burke had been cast as Strike. He is best known for his role in War And Peace as Fedor Dolokhov and in The Musketeers as Athos.

Tom, 36, said he was "overjoyed" to be part of the series, saying Cormoran Strike "is as complex as he is larger than life".

He added: "I know I’m joining an extraordinary team of people on a series that for me is peppered with moments of real emotional depth and meticulously grounded in the page-turning momentum of these novels.

"Cormoran’s world is rich and raw.”

JK Rowling herself praised the casting of Tom and has called him a "massively talented actor who'll bring the character to perfect life".

He is joined in the cast by Holliday Grainger, 29, who plays the part of Robin.

She was most recently seen as Lady Constance Chatterley in the BBC's adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover, and starred as 'Ugly Sister' Anastasia in the real life version of Disney's Cinderella.

JK has said: "I couldn’t be more delighted about the casting of Holliday Grainger, who brought my Robin to perfect onscreen life during her audition.

"We’ve now secured two superb actors in the lead roles and I think they will create something very special together.”

What is the Strike series all about?

The books follow the cases undertaken by private investigator Cormoran Strike and his assistant and secretary, Robin Ellacott.

Cormoran is in his late thirties, the illegitimate son of a former rock star and a former Special Investigation Branch investigator who was discharged from the army after losing half his leg in a bomb attack in Afghanistan.

He's now set up shop in Denmark Street and is running a small private detective agency, although not getting that much work until the events of the first book bring him recognition.

Cormoran takes on Robin as a temp but she impresses him and ends up working for him full-time.

In The Silkworm, the duo take on the case of a woman trying to track down her missing husband, an author who has upset a number of people with his latest book.

Cormoran and Robin have to get to the bottom of his disappearance, and soon make a grisly discovery, but can they solve the crime?
