Sarah Harding signed for Celebrity Big Brother because she ‘needed the money’ and she’s jealous of her Girls Aloud bandmates, claims a pal
SARAH Harding signed up for Celebrity Big Brother because she needed the money, according to a pal.
Ed Sheeran's musician cousin Jethro, who has worked with Sarah in the past, has also claimed the singer could "resent" the success and happiness of her Girls Aloud bandmates like Cheryl and Kimberley Walsh.
In an interview with magazine, Jethro alleged Sarah needed the CBB pay cheque after she injured her leg while training for Channel 4 winter sports show The Jump last year.
"She needed the money," claimed Jethro.
"She broke her leg on the last show, so she was in physiotherapy for that and lost out on work."
Sarah, 35, didn't actually break her leg on The Jump; she pulled a ligament in her knee that required her to withdraw from the competition.
She was advised to rest for a month and undergo physiotherapy.
Meanwhile, Jethro also suggested that Sarah may "resent" her famous Girls Aloud ex bandmates and their successes following the group's split in 2013.
"Maybe she's upset about Girls Aloud splitting up, not being the voice of the group, not being on X Factor like Cheryl, and thinks it's embarrassing that they're all happy with money and children," said Jethro.
"Maybe she still resents that."
Sarah received support from bandmates Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh while she was in the house, but Nicola Roberts refused to support her when asked by The Sun Online last week if she'd been watching CBB.
Sarah herself admitted in Celebrity Big Brother that she has drifted apart from the band over the years, apart from Nadine, whom she FaceTimed before entering the house.
In an emotional diary room chat, the blonde beauty admitted to "missing" her former colleagues and said nobody prepared her for what happened once fame ended.
"I'm such a fun loving person when I'm on form and with the right people around me, but I'm also really sensitive and my confidence was severely knocked over the last five or six years since the band ended," she said.
"Nobody really tells you what to do when you've been up there for a majority of years.
"You've had a lot of crazy life changing scenarios happen during that time and then all of a sudden it's gone.
"I hugely underestimated how big we were because I was in a bubble.
"I do miss them... I do miss them - but we are all grown up now.
"Most of them are getting married and having kids, which is what I want to do."
A band insider said: “In the back of her mind Sarah was hoping her comeback on CBB could spark a surge of interest in the band getting back together.
“Girls Aloud have a huge fanbase who would love to see a reunion.
"But if concerns over her reliability were high before she went in the house, they’ve gone through the roof now.”
Girls Aloud found fame when they were formed on the 2002 reality show Popstars: The Rivals, and went on to become the UK's biggest selling girl band of the 21st century with more than four million album sales.
They disbanded in 2013 following a Greatest Hits Tour to mark their tenth anniversary.
Cheryl, who is mum to baby son Bear, went on to enjoy a successful solo career and serve as an X Factor judge, while mum of two Kimberley appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and carved out a musical theatre career in the West End.
Nadine, also a mum to daughter Anaiya, also made the switch to solo artist and signed a new record deal with Virgin EMI in July to produce a second solo album.
Nicola has also released solo music, as well as working on a make-up range called Dainty Doll.
Sarah, meanwhile, has enjoyed her own success after winning Celebrity Big Brother on Friday night.
She triumphed over Amelia Lily in the live finale.
The pop star also walked away from the show with a new boyfriend after falling for housemate Chad Johnson, despite entering CBB in a romance with someone else.
She said after leaving the house: "I was in a very brief relationship, it was literally a matter of weeks so it wasn't very serious.
"He [Chad] soon became a very good friend to me, and we got a lot closer and I just had to weigh up the options.
"Dating someone for three or four weeks you don't get what we had from how much time we spend together in the house, it felt like six months."
Meanwhile, it's been reported that Sarah will now jet to Los Angeles to pursue her acting dreams.
Chad, best known for starring in US dating show The Bachelorette, is based over in LA, so it would be the perfect move for Sarah.
"I do have a bit of work coming up out there," said Sarah.
"And he might have some work commitments over here. So why not meet?"
It's also been claimed Sarah has been inundated with lucrative work offers following her CBB success, including a book deal and music collaborations.
A source told : "Sarah always wanted Celebrity Big Brother to launch the next chapter of her life.
"Her autobiography will chart everything up to her stint in the house.
"Then she can start afresh with her life.”
