Carol Smillie still furious with Phillip Schofield two years after he wrongly told This Morning viewers she was incontinent
CAROL Smillie was left “seething” at Phillip Schofield after he incorrectly told This Morning viewers that she had an incontinence problem.
The 53-year-old Scottish presenter confessed that she’d been keen on to appear on the show for a long time, but was always knocked back – however she got more than she bargained for when she was finally allowed on and Phillip leaked she had toilet troubles.
Carol told People: “If you Google my name, it comes up with articles on me ‘confessing to my incontinence problem.’
“The alarm bells should have rung when they invited me to appear.
“I’d been trying to get on the show for months and they weren’t interested.
"Amanda Holden came to my dressing room and told me how brave I was for speaking out. I thought, ‘about what?’.
“I grabbed a production assistant and asked what was written by my name on the clipboard. He said ‘suffers from incontinence’.
“I freaked and told him to get that off there – but the first thing Phillip did was to announce I was incontinent.”
Carol, who runs the firm specialising in discreet, waterproof knickers, , explained that she didn’t make a big fuss of it on live TV because she didn’t want women to feel that there was anything wrong or taboo with suffering from incontinence.
“I was seething but had to gently explain that was not the case. I have never been incontinent,” she said.

“All I wanted to do on the sofa was yell at the unfairness of it but I knew a lot of women watching might be incontinent so I had to point out the difference.”
While on the show the mum-of-three confessed to wetting herself once on a trampoline, something that Phillip took to mean she had incontinence but Carol insists was just a one-off.
She said: “But just because this has happened to you doesn’t mean you are incontinent.
“What mum of a certain age hasn’t leaked while on a trampoline?
“Part of the problem is if you sensationalise it, people won’t want to talk about it and it remains a taboo.”
