Who is Stacey Hart? Great British Bake Off 2017 contestant and semi-finalist who left the tent
THE Great British Bake Off is nearing the end of its first series on Channel 4 and Stacey Hart came within touching distance of the final.
The former teacher broke her oven door in Forgotten Bakes Week and then fell at the semi-final hurdle. Here's her story...
Who is Stacey Hart and what does she do?
Ex-teacher Stacey, 42, from Hertfordshire, has fond memories of helping her grandmother Phyllis make bread and butter pudding when she was a little girl.
During university, she really started to bake seriously and she likes to incorporate her Jewish heritage into her baking.
One of her specialities is a traditional homemade Challah that she bakes with every Friday night dinner.
Other favourite Jewish dishes include bagels, rye bread, honey cake and cinnamon balls.
She is a self-confessed perfectionist and can’t let any food leave her kitchen unless she is absolutely satisfied with it.
Stacey is married to husband James, who is a former Asos director, and she is kept busy by her three sons.
Why did Stacey Hart apply for the show?
The mum-of-three was encouraged to apply for the show by friends.
She said to : “I really fancied a challenge and wanted to do something for myself having given up my career to become a mum 10 years ago.
“I’m definitely known as a prolific baker. I always take round a bake or two whenever I go to friends’ houses. Am I any good? You’ll have to ask them! I have had many messages today from my friends wishing me good luck and they are very excited for me.”

When is Great British Bake Off on channel four?
The new series of The Great British Bake Off started on August 29 and continues to air every week on Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
The Bake Off was bought by Channel 4 last year amid much controversy, meaning the popular cooking contest moved from the BBC.
There were a few casualties of the move so popular hosts Mel and Sue and much-loved judge Mary Berry won't be appearing on the new series.
The Paul Hollywood will now be joined on the judging panel by Great British Menu judge Prue Leith.
While the show will now be presented by Sandi Toksvig and funny man Noel Fielding.
When did Stacey break her oven door?
In week eight of Bake Off, Stacey managed to her break her oven door and was forced to sit in front of it, holding the door up.
She ended up with no time to get her madeleines baked or her meringues in the oven.
Fortunately she managed to get another oven for the showstopper challenge, but many fans felt it was the last straw, feeling that Yan and Julia should have stayed in the competition instead of her.
However a week later Stacey was asked to leave the tent after failing to make the final by losing out in the semi-final stage.
