Who is Sophie Faldo? Great British Bake Off WINNER and trainee stuntwoman
The Bake Off victor was in the British Army as an Officer in the Royal Artillery - but has baked her way into the nation's hearts
BAKE OFF has come to an end, and the winner of the beloved show has been crowned.
The lucky victor was Sophie Faldo, who baked her way into viewer's hearts – but The Sun also reported she was being investigated for benefit fraud. Here's the lowdown...
Who is Sophie Faldo and what does she do?
Sophie, 33, from Surrey, is a former army officer who is now training to be a stuntwoman.
She lives with her boyfriend David, who is said to have entered her into the competition, and cat, Loki, and didn’t discover her love for baking until after offering to make a cake for a friend.
The psychology graduate, who gained a Masters degree at the University of Toulouse, has since developed a passion for patisserie and is hoping to wow the guests.
Is Sophie being investigated for benefit fraud?
Sophie declared in her Bake Off applcation that she lives with her boyfriend in Surrey.
However, reports revealed in the week of the final that she is claiming a single person's allowance.
It is thought that she was rumbled after the investigator read about her living situation on a BBC profile.
Claimants can get more if they are single rather than living as a couple, especially if their other half works.
Sophie lived with chef partner David, who works at The Glasshouse in Kew, in a house they shared with others before setting up home together in a two-bedroom flat.
“My back took longer to heal than I thought and it turned out that I preferred cycling anyway!”
She also said her motto is “Train hard, fight easy… one I stole from my Army days.”
