Asking for the Strictly theme tune to be turned off, she told Rylan and her husband Eamonn: “I have been having anxiety dreams.

“I have been very, very excited haven’t I? Excited, excited excited and then yesterday morning I just had a moment, I woke up really early and all I thought was ‘I am not ready, I should have lost weight, I should have been having dancing lessons, I can’t do this’”.

At that point cheeky Eamonn, who had previously made a joke about her needing two dancers to lift her, joked: “Can I just say, yes you should have.”

He then added: “If Ruth is unhappy, then I am unhappy.”

Rylan then quizzed her about how she felt about Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins also taking part in the show.

She replied: “Charlotte will look stunning.”

But Rylan felt like there was a bigger issue than that, saying:  “This is now This Morning vs. Good Morning Britain.

“If you let us down we are going to give you to loose women full time, your job is on the line.”

Ruth was the third celebrity contestant to be confirmed for this year’s show.

She made the reveal on This Morning, saying: "I feel a bit shaky now actually. I'm very relieved because I've had to keep this a secret for so long.

"Now it's out there. No going back now.I'm very excited what an opportunity. I've said every year I'd love to do Strictly."

Eamonn congratulated her, saying: "Darling. I'm very pleased for you.

"I'm so proud. I'm sure you'll be an inspiration to older women across the country."
