Sir Bruce Forsyth died at the age of 89 after a battle with ill-health – his death was confirmed on August 18, 2017.

The former Strictly Come Dancing host was a national treasure and one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers, having thrilled the nation for decades.

Bruce had been plagued with health troubles in recent years.

In March 2017, he spent five days in intensive care when he came down with a severe chest infection.

Just months before his passing Bruce suffered two life-threatening aneurysms, leaving him bed-bound and forcing him to cancel a string of public appearances.

He was survived by his wife Wilnelia Merced and his six children.

Sir Elton John said: “So sad to hear about the death of the legendary Bruce Forsyth. It was such an honour to work with him. My condolences to his family. #RIP”.

Tess Daley, who started working with Bruce on the BBC dancing show in 2004, paid an emotional tribute to him:“He was a gentleman and a true legend. I will miss him deeply. My heart goes out to Winnie his wife and his beautiful family at this sad time.”

Philip Schofield said: “So sad to hear that the true legend of TV and all round lovely man has taken his final bow. So long Brucie 😢 love to Wilnelia and his family”.
