Who won Amazing Spaces Shed Of The Year 2017? Benedict Swanborough’s Mushroom shed crowned winner
AMAZING Spaces Shed Of The Year has finished - and one contestant left the others shed and buried.
Benedict Swanborough beat almost 3,000 rivals to claim the top prize for his mushroom-shaped treehouse. Here's the lowdown...
Who won Shed of the Year 2017?
Benedict Swanborough, 47, is the man behind this year's most impressive shed.
The dad built the mushroom-shaped construction as a labour of love for his 13-year-old daughter Elise.
Elise originally handed over £500 of her own savings to pay for the treehouse, but dad Benedict got carried away and ended up spending over a grand on his project.
The two-storey shed boasts a trap door, stained glass window and even a glass floor section which looks out onto a stream below at the bottom of the garden.
It also features a circular hammock chair and a glass skylight in the roof to allow for stargazing.
The shed won the "cabin and summerhouse" category before being declared the overall best shed ahead of seven other category winners.
Despite being a professional garden designer, Benedict said he never expected to win the top prize.
He scooped a £1,000 cheque for his efforts, along with a giant crown and a winner's plaque to hang in his daughter's treehouse.
What is Amazing Spaces Shed Of The Year and when is it on?
The four-part show saw presenter George Clarke search high and low across the country to find the very best sheds Britain has to offer.
George and his fellow judges visited some of the most eccentric and colourful shed owners in Britain in their quest to crown the winner, with sheds reaching the final by winning the public vote.
What was Shed of the Year in 2016?
Last year the top prize was won by Kevin Herbert for his West Wing creation at his home in Berkshire.
The masterpiece was made from 90 per cent recycled materials - meaning it also scooped the Eco Winner award.
The West Wing included a bed, a hidden bookcase and a workshop.
