The rumour mill went into overdrive yesterday when the duo behind the Pop University podcast said Timbaland told them a 'Justney' collaboration could happen next year.

Maddie Lazer and Hannah Rowston approached the producer at a recording of his new talent show Boy Band.

Timbaland first thought the pair were shouting "Justin" at him and he said: "It's coming, new music, 2018!"

However, they then clarified that they were asking about Justin and his former flame.

After they said: "No, Justney...Justin and Britney and you", the hosts claimed Timbaland's "eyes widened" and he replied: "Yes, it's coming. It's coming."

Rumours first started circulating that Brit and Justin could record together back in April when Timbaland, 45, 'liked' photos of theirs on Instagram.

Justin's mother than followed Britney and some of her family members on Instagram and even liked some throwback snaps of the pair from when they dated from 1999 to 2002.

Britney also added fuel to the fire when she was asked to name some of her favourite singers that she would like to work with in the future.

She said: "Aerosmith [frontman Steven Tyler] seems really good and bright. He’s a genius, I think. He’s very rock ’n’ roll. He sings from his soul.

“Gwen Stefani, I think she’s great. Justin Timberlake is very good.”

Unfortunately, we wont be seeing 'Justney' on stage together any time soon as sources close to Justin say duet claims are false

When asked by ET Online what he thought about working with his ex, Justin said: "I'm accessible, give us a call!".

However, while fans have gotten their hopes up of a duet made in pop heaven, sources close to Justin have reportedly told the site that "recent speculation about the pop stars teaming up are false".
