Princess Diana’s stepbrother slams Channel 4 documentary about the royal’s fiery relationship with her ‘wicked’ stepmother Countess Raine Spencer
A NEW documentary about Princess Diana has been slammed by her stepbrother.
Diana’s “Wicked” Stepmother, screened on Channel 4, told of the royal’s fiery relationship with Countess Raine Spencer.
Earl Dartmouth, 67, the Countess’s son, refused to co-operate and said: “I won’t be watching.”
A spokesman for the earl, who is Ukip deputy chairman. added: “He declined to discuss his mother with producers.”
Relatives of Raine, who died aged 87 last year, are understood to have got TV bosses to agree to add quotes around “wicked” in the title to make clear it was people’s opinion rather than fact.
Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell told the show the Princess sobbed herself to sleep after the birth of Prince Harry.
He also claimed Prince Charles told her his duty was now done — he’d provided the country with an “heir and a spare”.
Burrell said: “I could see the cracks in the marriage getting wider and wider.”
The documentary also told how Diana shoved her stepmother down stairs, and ensured she was kicked out of the family home within days of her dad’s death. They later reconciled.
Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, featured in the show via archive footage.
Last week he begged Channel 4 not to screen a show featuring private tapes recorded by Diana’s speech coach. The broadcaster refused, saying they were of historical importance.
