Why did Love Island’s Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay split up and how long were the Love Island 2017 winners together?
THEY threw themselves and their relationship into the spotlight following their win on last year's Love Island, but Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay's relationship didn't last.
Despite the telly lovebirds bagging the show's top prize and celebrating their relationship in magazine and newspapers, the couple went from wedding planning to splitsville.
Why did Kem and Amber split?
The reality TV couple, who had been dating since meeting on Love Island this summer, announced their short-lived relationship was over in December 2017.
The Essex boy and Welsh beauty decided to call it quits after a string of rows.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, a pal said: "They’ve been at each other’s necks for the past month.
“They’ve clashed over the smallest things. It’s also been very hard for them to see each other with their hectic schedules.
“They tried to make it work but realised they want different things.”
Releasing a statement shortly after the news broke, Amber and Kem released a statement confirming the news.
It read: "With sadness, we’ve decided to separate. Our schedules made it difficult. We’ll remain good friends."
Were Kem and Amber really going to get married?
The Essex barber and Welsh stage performer appeared to be on the road to matrimonial bliss.
The couple previously spoke at length about their marriage plans, saying they were planning to have three weddings.
Kem said the weddings would take place over one week - though the couple tellingly never set a date.
The venues were named as Essex, one in Wales and another in Cyprus.
Kem even suggested a fourth country might be added to the list, with Amber saying: "We'll milk it massively."
After winning £50,000 between them in the July 24 finale it seemed that the pair were willing to splash the cash on their celebrations.
Amber had already met and grown close to Kem's mother, who she called her "second momma" online.
What other plans did that have?
The couple had also heavily hinted they were already considering starting a family.
Amber said she wants either "two or four" kids because she likes even numbers.
Meanwhile Kem also talked about children, and said he doesn't want to have boys because they'll be "really short".
Amber revealed she'd picked out the name Kai for a boy and Olive for a girl, but Kem insisted he wasn't sure about Olive, joking: "It's like calling it Gherkin."
Who is Kem Cetinay?
Essex lad Kem, 21 - who is of Turkish and Cypriot descent - is a hairdresser with some interesting celebrity clients, reportedly cutting Calum Best’s hair as well as that of the Towie lads.
The cheeky chappy prides himself on not taking himself too seriously, and said before the show: “I’m not your typical boy; I’m very, very different. I don’t want to be the macho guy.
“I’m feminine in a way – I don’t mind sitting with a girl doing a facemask and having a gossip.”
Kem also admitted before Love Island that he had never been in love or had a serious relationship – and says his close relationship with his mum is responsible for some of that.
He said: “The problem is, I’m a mummy’s boy! I live at home and I always sit with my mum at home watching TV and cuddling up to her.
“We’re best friends. I don’t think she’ll ever let me move out!”
The biggest connection in the Love Island villa was the bromance between Kem and Chris Hughes – the duo formed a close friendship and their chats and raps were hilarious, keeping the viewers and fellow contestants entertained.
Kem hit a double winner as he also found himself a girlfriend in Amber – and they became the second couple to have sex in the villa ten days into the show.
After a 90-minute final and an emotional declaration of love during the last episode the pair were crowned winners of the series.
During the final tense few minutes, Kem had the option of keeping the £50k to himself, but he shared it with Amber.
Who is Amber Davies?
Amber, 20, is an actress, singer and dancer who became a contestant on ITV2’s reality romance show Love Island.
The pint-sized brunette hails from North Wales and she turned down a lead role in the musical Hairspray to be on the show.
She has also worked as an entertainer as part of London’s circus themed club night – the same saucy club where last year’s winner Cara de la Hoyde also performed before joining the show.
Upon entering the house, Amber didn’t hold back – she kissed ex-contestant Harley Judge on day one in the villa, before getting way more serious with Kem Cetinay ten days in.
She and Kem became the bonking champions of the villa, and later had to admit they had sex in the pool on Camilla Thurlow's birthday, in front of everyone.
What is Love Island?
Love Island sends a host of singletons looking for a good time over to a luxurious villa for a summer of passion.
Known for its hot and heavy sex scenes, the contestants are encouraged to pair up and convince the public they have found love.
In a twist at the end of the series, the winning couple have the option to split the cash, or take the entire £50,000 pot home for themselves.
Talk about putting your love to the test!
