A COUPLE were ridiculed on today's This Morning after claiming a creepy Victorian doll had attacked the husband as he slept.
Debbie and Cameron Merrick, both 50, bought three vintage dolls from a secondhand shop for £5 each in the hope they could sell them on for profit.
However, they got more than they bargained for when spooky goings on allegedly started happening in their home.
The couple recalled how Cameron felt a burning sensation in the shower the morning after moving the doll due to friends visiting.
He said: "I woke up in the morning and I had a shower as usual. I looked down and there was a dozen or so scratches on my knee."
They insisted they didn't have a cat and it couldn't have been Cameron as he has very short nails.
Debbie explained how the "tight" pearl necklace around the doll's neck came loose when it was packed securely inside a box in the shed, and how last night they heard something "swishing" around the bottom of their hotel room bed.
Viewers weren't buying it, though.
One wrote on Twitter: "@thismorning that doll is not haunted! Just a made up story to get some quick money! #conningthepublic"
Another said: "This couple on #ThisMorning claiming their doll is budget annabelle for their 5 minutes of fame 😂⛏️🗡️"
While a third posted: "@EamonnHolmes How did you not laugh all the way through that interview? 😂 A haunted doll 😂 #ThisMorning"
"@thismorning @EamonnHolmes 😂😂 possessed doll. This is hilarious," laughed a fourth.
An owner of a paranormal magazine has come forward and paid £866 for the item and the other two are still up for sale.
Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford struggled to keep a straight face throughout the interview, seemingly sceptical of the couple's story.
Elsewhere on the show, Britain's Got Talent favourite Ashleigh Butler broke down in tears as she remembered the good times she had with her late dog Pudsey, who died this week aged 11.
The talented dog handler, 22, also introduced her other dog Sullivan to viewers, with the four-year-old pooch taking on the mantle from Pudsey.
Recalling the moment she realised Pudsey wasn’t well, she said: “I was at a dog show with him last weekend. On the Monday he wasn’t himself and was sleeping a lot. I took him to the vets on Tuesday and between Tuesday and Thursday he went downhill so quickly.
“On the Thursday it got to the point where he couldn’t even lift his head.”
As images flashed across the screen of the pair meeting the Queen and being photographed at glitzy events, Ashleigh sobbed: “He gave me opportunities that I never thought I’d ever have.”
