Heartwarming moment Phillip Schofield reveals he will pay-off struggling mother’s debt and reduces This Morning viewers to tears
Viewers were left in tears by the kind gesture
HOLLY Willoughby and Phillip Schofield left This Morning viewers in tears today as they offered to pay a phone-in caller's debts so she can afford a holiday this year.
The pair made the kind gesture after they were moved by the plight of a woman who broke down about her money troubles during an emotional phone-in.
Holly and Phil spoke to the caller, named only as Jo, on today's show as they hosted a phone-in about summer holidays.
Jo revealed she was left with more than £1,000-worth of debt after her long-term partner walked out on her and her daughter.
She said: "I can just afford the gas and electricity that's necessary, let alone the extras that an 11-year-old girl wants."
Clearly moved by her plight, Phil, 56, announced they would help Jo by paying off her debt.
He said: "Jo? It's our last day [before the summer holiday] and we're in a very good mood so we're going to sort your debt out.
"You're not in debt any more. Have a lovely summer."
Jo sounded overwhelmed and thanked the hosts for the generous gesture.
Viewers were also moved by the offer and they flocked to Twitter to thank Phil, Holly and This Morning bosses for helping Jo out.
Many revealed the act of kindness left them in tears.
One tweeted: "@Schofe and @hollywills are two amazing people.
"How lovely are the pair to pay of a debt for a young lady. Emotions ❤️ #ThisMorning"
Another wrote: "That was so good of holly and phillip paying that women debt off #ThisMorning."
A third added: "Holly and Phillip paying that ladies debt so she can enjoy a holiday with her daughter😭😭😭 amazing people."
Another wrote: "#thismorning How you helped Jo with her debt! Bought a tear to my eye, I hope her summer is less stressful now. You're wonderful people!"
The gesture came as it is Holly and Phil's last day on set before their six-week break.
The pair surprised fans by hosting This Morning on their day off today before leaving the show for a six-week break.
The pair are taking the rest of the summer off and they put in an extra day of work before bowing out.
Holly and Phil usually always take Fridays off, leaving Eamonn Holmes and wife Ruth Langsford to cover for them.
But they surprised fans today by hosting the show today as they prepare for their long summer break.
Viewers will have to wait until September to see Holly and Phil back on TV.
Holly said: We're not usually here on a Friday, but there's plenty of Friday fun to be had."
Phil added: "Eamonn and Ruth will be holding the fort from Monday."
