FURIOUS This Morning viewers flocked to Twitter today to brand baby ear piercing "cruel" after Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield hosted a fierce debate over whether it should be banned.
Holly and Phil tackled the issue on the show today and it sparked a huge response from fans at home.
The presenters launched an online poll and hosted a debate with agony aunt Hilary Freeman and former model Jerri Lee.
Hilary argued that piercing a child's ears is tantamount to child abuse, but Jerri Lee insisted little girls look pretty with earrings.
The pair battled it out onscreen in a heated debate before Phil revealed that most This Morning viewers had voted that the practice should be banned,
Those watching at home also took to Twitter to express their anger, with many branding baby ear piercing "cruel".
One wrote: "Why would you want to hurt your babies ? #ThisMorning."
Another added: "#ThisMorning Imagine a stranger sticking a needle into your baby. It's assault."
A third added: "Your child is pretty enough without earrings. Vanity! Disgusting. #ThisMorning."
The debate was sparked by a controversial video of a baby screaming after having her ears pierced, which went viral after it was posted on Facebook.
The short clip shows a tot being held by her mother as the procedure takes place, before wailing when the piercing gun punctures her lobe.
While the baby seems at ease when she first meets the piercer, she appears to get increasingly distressed throughout the process.
She is comforted by her mum as the salon worker places marker dots on her ears.
The video, which is believed to have been filmed in the US, has been causing a stir since it was uploaded to the earlier this month.
More than 12,000 people have given their opinion on the controversial footage, which has been viewed over 3.6 million times.
The vast majority of parents have slammed the woman in the video for putting her daughter through the minor cosmetic procedure.
