Benidorm’s Sherrie Hewson reveals backstage chaos after set was flooded by huge thunderstorm – before Lorraine Kelly requests a cameo as a baddie
THE cast of Benidorm were "flooded out" after the resort was hit by "the worst thunderstorms Spain has ever had".
The ITV comedy films in the popular resort every year, but speaking on today's Lorraine, star Sherrie Hewson revealed they have been hampered by the weather this time around.
After Lorraine commented on the bright blue sky behind her as they chatted via video link, Sherrie said: "Well do you know what? a few days ago it was the worst thunderstorms Spain has ever had.
"[It was] unbelievable, we were flooded out, incredible."
Thankfully filming was able to get back on track, and Lorraine asked Sherrie what viewers can expect next for her character, Joyce Temple-Savage.
At the end of series nine, the hotel manager was proposed to by her love interest Monty, played by Only Fools and Horses star John Challis.
Sherrie said: "I can't tell you anything, but I think she should marry Monty, I think he's right for her.
"She's quite bossy and I think he could take that, I think he could handle her.
"So she should, but I can't tell you whether she does."
Benidorm began in 2007, and Sherrie - who joined in 2012 - can't quite believe its hit its milestone 10th year.
She said: "This is our 10th anniversary, I can't believe it's been 10 years since this started, I think it could go on forever."
Over the years, the show has had many famous cameos, including Jason Manford, Denise Welch, Amanda Barrie and Nigel Havers.
And Lorraine revealed she would love to jet out to sunny Spain and appear in the show herself.
She said: "I would love to be there, in the sunshine, but only if I could play a real baddie.
"Could I not be Joyce's evil twin or sister?"
As the women laughed, Sherrie joked: "Yes you could show the other side of you Lorraine, the side that no body has ever seen, but I've seen it!"
