Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan quits after 26 years saying he ‘hasn’t been happy’ on the hit show for some time but refuses to say why

RORY Cowan has quit Mrs Brown's Boys after being part of the show for 26 years.

The Irish actor played Agnes' son Rory and performed for the last time at London's O2 on Sunday night.

Rory said "hasn't been happy" on hit show for some time now and handed in his notice to creator Brendan O'Carroll last month.

He told the Irish Daily Mail: "I hadn’t been happy working for the Mrs Brown’s Boys company for the last 18 months to two years.

“I feel that 26 years is enough so I decided it was time to go.

“I told Brendan on June 16 about my decision to leave.

“That’s when I handed in my notice.

“I was supposed to leave at the end of that week, but Brendan said that would be impossible and asked if I’d stay on until the end of the London O2 gigs. So I agreed to that."

Mrs Brown's Boys was originally a stage show before being picked up by the BBC and becoming a TV smash hit.

The cast have sold out shows across the world and released a film called Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie in 2014.

Earlier this year Mrs Brown even had her own chat show with stars like Ross Kemp, Peter Andre and Pixie Lott appearing as guests.

While many fans will be disappointed to hear of Rory's departure, he won't he revealing why he decided to leave.

He said: "I’m not going into details about why I was unhappy,”

“I did the final show [in London], packed my stuff into a small Waitrose plastic bag and just left the venue."

The 57-year-old said he's going to focus on other career opportunities after taking some time off.

He added: "I’d love to do something like a weekend radio show but we’ll see what comes down the line.

“For now I’m going to take a little time off."
