'MARCEL NEEDS SOME TLC'

Jeremy Corbyn backs Marcel Somerville to win Love Island and urges viewers to ‘give him a vote’

LOVE Island may not be Jeremy Corbyn's type on paper but this hasn't stopped him backing Marcel Somerville to win.

The Labour leader has urged viewers to vote for the ex-Blazin' Squad singer  - despite admitting he doesn't actually watch the ITV reality show.

he said: “I haven’t been watching it, but I’d advise that Marcel needs a vote.”

He then appeared to give a nod to Marcel's boyband background by making a reference to TLC, an R&B girlband popular in the 90s, when he added: “We should give him a vote.

"He needs a bit of, shall I say, TLC.”

However, the 68-year-old may not have backed a winner with Marcel, despite the fact he's currently the favourite to win.

Marcel's partner Gabby has been having doubts about him after learning he got cosy with some of the new girls while isolated in the other villa.

She also refused to say "I love you" to him when the other islanders were gathered round.

It seems Mr Corbyn may find Love Island a lot more worthy of his time than The One Show, which he dealt a rather sly blow during an appearance in May.

He told host Matt Baker: "So this [the show's content] isn’t some kind of random 'good luck'? This is actually thought out, is it?"

Clearly Jeremy recognises quality TV when he sees it.

Love Island continues at 9pm tonight on ITV2.
