Carol Vorderman reveals the pain of losing her mum and admits she ‘misses her terribly’
CAROL Vorderman admitted she misses her mum Jean "terribly" as she opened up on her heartache following her tragic death from cancer.
The ex Countdown star only revealed her sad loss on Twitter earlier this month, after telling fans she had attended her private funeral.
Her much-loved parent, aged 88, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in March.
She posted a touching Twitter tribute to her "amazing" mum hours after laying her to rest.
On today's Good Morning Britain, presenter Piers Morgan was quick to offer his sympathy and said: "We are very, very sorry about your mum.
"She was an amazing lady."
The Maths whizz confessed a major part of her life had passed and replied: "Yes she was, she was always with me as you know.
"She worked for me since I was 25 and lived with me. We miss her terribly.
"But there was nothing left unsaid or undone. as she would say, it's not a tragedy, I'm nearly 89, and I've had a great life."
Piers, 52, replied: "She did have a great life - and she was very proud of you," to which a clearly-touched Carol replied: "For all my sins!" before bursting out into fits of giggles.
Earlier this year, we reported how keen pilot Carol had postponed a planned around-the-world flight after her mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Today, she told the ITV show she was gradually getting back into flight mode and said: "I was going to be doing a global flight.
"I'm gradually reorganising that with my life, and I went to see my plane this week."
Telly favourite Carol, 56, chose not to publicly announce Jean's passing after previously keeping fans updated with her wellbeing, meaning this month's social media message came as a shock.
Taking to her account with a heartbreaking message she wrote: "Some days are tough, today was one of them.
"Today was my amazing Mum's funeral..... Rest In Peace Jean Vorderman You will always be loved."
Immediately after the maths whizz posted her sad news, her fans were quick to send their messages of sympathy.
One wrote: "Ah I'm so so sorry to hear that. was only wondering the other day how you guys were doing as I'd seen you'd been quiet on here. Big hugs xx" while another added: "So sorry to hear your news. I'm not sure anyone gets fully over losing someone close. Time just dulls the loss."
A third then put: "My heart felt condolences Carol. What a wonderful woman xx."
Television presenter Carol opened up on Mother’s Day about her 88-year-old mum Edwina, who also goes by the name of Jean’s, diagnosis of terminal cancer.
She wrote: “A precious Mother’s Day x This wk Mum & I found out she has terminal cancer. She’s 88, beautiful inside and out & I love her beyond measure x”.
